Mr. ilango “King Station” (2011)
Boom Bap Beat Tape
King Station is a 14-track instrumental beat tape built around a decade of daily transit through Toronto’s north end - the ride from the Sheppard 85 down to King Station downtown. Sample-driven and drum-heavy, it leans into classic boom bap textures with detours into moodier, more atmospheric territory.
The tape opens with “King Station (Intro)” and moves through cuts like “CP-93,” “The Ballad of Jojo Chintoh,” “King Solomon,” and “Black Karen” before closing out on “Kingston” and “Outro” — bookending the tape with the two ends of that commute.
